Although not necessarily a sign of PMS or PMDD, Dysmenorrhea (Menstrual cramps) often occur in conjunction with the other symptoms associated with these conditions.

What Is Dysmenorrhea?

Painful menstruation, typically involving abdominal cramps.

Dysmenorrhea, otherwise known as menstrual cramps, is regarded as the single largest cause of lost working hours and missed school lessons among women. Although previously overlooked by the medical community as a byproduct of menstruation, menstrual cramps are now taken seriously by doctors. These painful cramps can be easily treated now with prescription-free over-the-counter drugs that you will find in any chemist / drug store. Here are a few tips to help alleviate menstrual cramps.

Reduce Salt Intake
Reducing your salt intake will help prevent water retention, which leads to bloating.
Avoid Alcohol
Avoiding alcohol or eliminating it completely will also help prevent the onset of migraines and headaches.
Eat Smaller, Frequent Meals
By increasing the frequency of your meals and reducing their food content you will equalize your blood sugar levels, which will stabilize your moods.
Exercise A Little
By exercising a little you will release beta-endorphins, which are associated with pain relief.
Ibuprofen
Taking a course of Ibuprofen (available over-the-counter) will go a long way to dulling the pain. Ibuprofen is powerful stuff though, so follow the instructions closely!
Contraceptive Pill
Taking the contraceptive pill will reduce the amount of tissue that is discharged and lower the pain of contractions.
